Ringsend Urban Paving

Ringsend is an urban village, a sea-related world gradually engulfed by Dublin - but not consumed. It retains lively identity and strong, if subliminal, boundaries. The urban enhancement scheme aimed to make a manifest heart, raising a lozenge around a mid-20th century library using strips of granite and inset basalt to form an undulating geography of seats, lights and ramps.

The scheme extended to engage with the wider urban environment. Cobbles were laid to the surrounding buildings. The far pavement was marked by an artwork of silver piers inscribed with famous women writers. On plan, the paving also extended across the main road, coming to a point in the square in front of the parish church.
