Architecture focuses on the evolving needs of individuals and communities. It’s about being open-minded and generous in spirit - making spaces for people, thinking intelligently about human space for living/working/thinking in specific climates and cultures.
Architecture is about building original ideas - looking with fresh eyes and responding authentically. Too much of what is built is repetitive recycling and copying. There is an urgent need for a focus on fresh ideas at any scale.
Our practice is open to positive collaboration at all levels. Discussion and engagement with others enriches our work. Collaboration occurs within the practice, with clients and consultants, as well as with artists, architects and many others throughout the process.
Our practice is rooted in the local and open to the global. Our way of looking and listening is uniquely influenced by our home city of Dublin, and we bring this to bear on our work in international locations across the globe. Our way of exchange is a form of open listening that can help to make real and beautiful things.
Our work is based on sustainable principles of designing for people, and respect for our material culture - which may sometimes mean not building, or building less. Social, economic and environmental sustainability is fundamental to all of our work. We are committed to delivering LEED/BREEAM/NZEB projects. The innovative design solutions generated by the climate and cultural context informs our architectural expression, and contributes to improving well-being for people and the planet.
Our practice is concerned with PLACE and TIME. We work with concepts of geography - building in real landscape or making forms which reflect Nature, responding to contexts whether they are existing buildings, an open field or a city. We try to understand the value of history and culture, as we believe they can, and should, be incorporated into a layered response in new architecture. This is true of all our work, but has a particular resonance in interventive projects that combine new forms with old buildings.
We extend our practice through writing, film-making, exhibitions and competitions, exploring the themes which inform our work. This is about a second eye - a second commentary on the place we build in, a second eye on what we do.
